Her dad was her hero, as Nadya indicated on Instagram. “Growing up he was my hero; so strong, seemingly indestructible, yet the kindest, most loving, nurturing, and giving man I had the honor of calling my dad.” Eddie, a nickname he adopted to make it easier to assimilate in the US after emigrating from Jerusalem, maintained a close relationship with his daughter. But he descended into a path of self-destruction, turning into an alcoholic. His chronic alcoholism for 40 years led to an accident that paralyzed him from the neck down, and unable to breathe on his own. In a Father’s Day post on Instagram, Nadya wrote “Had my eldest son and I not been present to administer CPR, my dad would not be with us today. My dad is incredibly fortunate that although he is quadriplegic, he is more lucid and cognizant in his mind than he has been throughout all the years of his self-destructive numbing with chemicals. The kids and I love you with all our hearts grandpa.”
