While it is said to always be respectful to older folk, the older ladies in Austria have a tendency to get away with being rude. Many times, they will try to get ahead of the line, whether it’s waiting to enter the metro, trying to get on the bus or just get ahead, period. While you shouldn’t be mean, it’s okay to hold your place and show them that you were there first. If not, they will take advantage of your ‘kindness’ time and time again.
