Don’t Freak Out On Tuesdays At Noon

HILobrow

Many tourists get startled in the City by the Bay on Tuesdays at noon. The reason is that this is the time when emergency sirens go off around the city. But no need to panic, it is just the weekly outdoor warning test. Believe it or not, this drill has been in place since 1942. Initially done to warn the population about air raids during the war, it has been done to warn locals about impending hazards that may be caused by an earthquake, fire, tsunami, or gas leak. Locals know that the sirens usually last for 15 seconds when it is a test. In a real emergency, the sirens will continue for 5 minutes. So now you know, so be prepared.
