The great thing about San Francisco is that there is so much diversity in such a small area. Tourist attractions, great restaurants, and amazing architecture, are close to each other. Plus the fact that there are various transportation options that are easy and comfortable. This includes the proliferation of ride share apps. That is why most locals don’t have cars in the city, they don’t need it and so it becomes an unnecessary expense. Also parking is a problem, and the winding and up and down roads make driving a little tedious. So unless you plan to drive out of the city, you don’t need to drive a vehicle around.
