Locals have their own lingo, which may confuse first-time visitors to this amazing city. It is actually funny and lively, and takes some time getting used to it. For example, the most common word you will hear is “hella”, which is used instead of extremely or very – “I’m hella hungry.” Another word is “maney”, a word to replace weird – “Frisco slang is maney.” some other words would be “giggin” – for exceptional good time, “swoop” – to pick up, “tryna” – trying to, and “cutty” – shady or sketchy, to name a few. You will eventually get used to it, and before you know it, you will be an expert at San Francisco slang. Of course you don’t have to use the lingo, locals will know a tourist when they see one.
