Nicole Kidman played the role of Satine, the courtesan who fell for a penniless writer named Christian. As an actress, she had to prepare for the role months before shooting. There was a lot of singing involved, and before then, Kidman wasn’t known for her vocal chops. The effort obviously paid off. Audiences couldn’t help but feel for the girl who was set to marry a man she didn’t love while fighting for the man she actually had feelings for. There were no dry eyes at the end of the movie, and everyone clearly understood why Ewan McGregor’s character clearly fell for the effervescent and beyond exquisite Satine.
