Back when the show first came out on television, CBS was very concerned about the way the American audience was going to take or even accept an American girl married to a Cuban man. But obviously, they managed to become one of American’s most loved TV couples. Although a lot of the comedy from the show was Lucy making fun of Ricky’s thick Cuban accent, she was the only one allowed to joke about it and no one else. If there were other characters that tried to make fun of it, the audience didn’t react.
