I Love Lucy managed to pave the way for future shows in a number of ways, such as being the first to have a live audience. And another one was by being the first to use a three-camera format when shooting the show. Before them, almost all the other TV shows used the single-camera format, but because producers wanted to use the live audience, they needed to get more creative and this is how they did it. Of course these days, three cameras sounds incredibly limited, but back then, they were considered revolutionary.
