The Affectionate and Intelligent Pekingese

Wikipedia

The Pekingese was originally bred to be the companions of the ancient Chinese royal family. In fact, legend has it that Buddha took lions and shrunk them down to puppy size so that they could become pets. It was only when the British invaded China that they were brought to other lands and eventually bred as pets in other countries. The Pekingese is not only known for their intelligence, but for their fur, their gait, and the fact that they are quite calm and easy to train. Oftentimes, they are bred and trained to be therapy dogs to help people in hospitals and nursing homes, and they tend to work best in equally relaxed and calm environments.
