Don’t Be Stingy With Your Beer

Beer is a well-loved drink the world over, and in Brazil, people have a different approach to beer drinking. It’s not about who can chug the most in the shortest time possible (and get the most sloshed), it’s all about sharing. In Brazil, sharing beer (or chopp, as they call it) is customary. When going out with friends, the custom is to order a large bottle (700ml) of beer and get a bunch of glasses, one for each drinker. Everyone then shares the beer—and drinks it quickly, as Brazilians like their beer ice cold! If you do decide to go solo on one bottle, don’t be surprised if you receive strange looks from others. It just isn’t the way it’s done in Brazil.
