While England comprises over half the size of the United Kingdom, don’t mistake England to be the UK. Nothing bothers a person from Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland more than being referred to as “English.” It may be an honest mistake on the visitor’s part, but it could start a brawl. Remember, each distinctive country has a good deal of local government control, their own culture, national language, and customs and traditions. Know where in the United Kingdom you are in, and don’t make mistakes. To be safe, use the term British instead. It will surely be to your advantage to do so. Take note, it is no joking matter.
