For most of us, coins equate to loose change. Many visitors to the UK underestimate the value of British coins. A British pound may look like play money, but it equals US$ 1.29. This means that a handful of coins could buy a sandwich and a drink, or a couple of pints of beer. Tourists are advised to spend all the British coins before leaving for home, as most banks will not exchange British coins for your own currency. No problem with paper money though. Of course if you want to keep some souvenirs from the UK, coins do make worth collectibles. Besides, you never know when you might return for another visit.
