There are times that co-occurring disorders manifest in people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. These disorders vary from patient to patient and can oftentimes disrupt the progress of patients undergoing therapy. They may even cause patients to revert back to their old ways which is why they need to be addressed when they appear.
Despite NPD being unresponsive to medications just like other personality disorders, doctors may opt to supplement treatment with a group of drugs called antipsychotics. These group of drugs can work alone or hand-in-hand with mood stabilizers in preventing the symptoms of mania and psychosis from occurring in patients with NPD.
Examples of antipsychotic drugs given to NPD patients include olanzapine (Zyprexa), risperidone (Risperdal), asenapie (Saphris), aripriprazole (Abilify), quetiapine (Seroquel), ziprasidone (Geodon), and lurasidone (Latuda).
