Charlene Wittstock, the former olympic swimmer, married Albert II, Prince of Monaco in 2011. She wore a bespoke gown by Giorgio Armani that took 2,500 hours to complete, and featured 40,000 Swarovski crystals, 20,000 mother of pearl teardrops, and 30,000 stones in various gold shades. The dress itself was made with up to 50 meters of duchesse silk and 80 meters of silk organza, with the veil reaching 20 meters of silk tulle that took up to 100 hours to embroider.
