Macklemore happened to have an alcohol addiction from the time that he was just a teen. He went on to say, “Adjusting to the fame in a condensed period and not staying sober has been the worst. There was a rapid transition and to have the world’s eye on me all at once with back-to-back No. 1s, and all the accolades that came with it –I didn’t know how to deal with it. I didn’t know how to adjust, so I escaped.” And by the time that he was just 25, he was at the point that he needed to get sober. He told MTV in an interview, “The thing that pulled me back was knowing that I wanted to be a musician, and that if I wanted to do this I had to get sober.” Thankfully for all his fans, that’s exactly what he did and he’s been sober ever since.
