Take Necessary Precautions When Travelling

When travelling to places that you are not familiar with, taking the right precautions can help you avoid getting sick with intestinal diseases such as stomach flu and bacterial gastroenteritis.
Contaminated food or water can put you at risk of getting infected. You may be able to reduce that risk by following these tips:
1. Only drink bottled or carbonated water that are sealed properly.
2. Stay away from ice cubes. You can never tell whether they are made from water coming from contaminated sources.
3. Only use bottled water when brushing your teeth. You may think that spitting water out will keep you safe, but viruses and bacteria do not need to be swallowed to make you sick.
4. Avoid raw food such as peeled fruits, vegetables and salads. These have most-likely been handled by human hands that could be contaminated.
5. Do not eat undercooked meat and fish. Heat kills and destroys disease-causing germs. Therefore, food items that aren’t cooked through might still contain bacteria and parasites that could make you fall ill.
