Probiotics

The giving of live “good” bacteria, or probiotics, to patients suffering from intestinal infections, have been found to aid recovery. Studies involving children suffering from gastroenteritis, have found that the use of these agents, which contain either Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG or Saccharomyces bouladii, shortened their hospital stay by at least 1.12 days.
When used in conjunction with fluid replacement therapy and the administration of oral rehydrating solutions, these “good” bacteria showed better responses in the fight against intestinal infection.
