This is because stomach flu, or viral gastroenteritis, is very contagious and can spread quickly from person to person. People who are infected with a virus that causes stomach flu become infectious to others during two phases of the disease: once they begin feeling sick, and a few days after recovering.

Stomach flu infections are transferred in several different ways: direct mouth contact or contact with contaminated surfaces, food, drinking liquids, and body excrement such as vomit and stool.
