A former actor who entered politics and became the 33rd Governor of California, and eventually the 40th President of the United States. Reagan was raised in a low income family in small towns of northern Illinois, and decided to pursue acting as a career when he moved to California. The lure of Hollywood does create a spell over many. Well, unfortunately he did not make the big time in showbiz, and moved on to politics. Fortunately, here he struck gold. As President of the most powerful free nation on the planet, Reagan implemented sweeping political and economic initiatives. “Reaganomics” advocated tax rate reduction to spur economic growth, economic deregulation, and reduction in government spending. The other memorable thrust was his War on Drugs campaign, though it was not really successful. Still, when he left office in 1989, he had an approval rating of 68%, matching that of FDR, and later, Bill Clinton. The former actor and president lived a full life, and passed away at a ripe old age of 93 due to pneumonia, complicated by Alzheimer’s disease.
