This larger than life funnyman suffered a heart attack while filming Wagons East!, in Mexico. He has entertained us with several funny characters in major film productions such as Stripes, Cool Runnings, Spaceballs, and Uncle Buck, to name a few. His two final films, Canadian Bacon and Wagons East!, are dedicated to his memory. Even though Candy struggled with weight-related health issues, and was a heavy smoker and drinker, friends and family were still shocked by his sudden passing at the age of 43. Wagons East was completed using a stunt double and special effects, and was released 5 months after Candy’s death. Candy was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 1998, and in 2006 was featured on a postage stamp by Canada Post. There were several other tributes and honors given to the late actor, and not only in Canada, where he was born. John Candy may have left us too soon, but his legacy will continue on, thanks Mr. Candy for the laughter.
