James Gandolfini (1961 – 2013)

This American actor and producer is best remembered for his role as Tony Soprano in the hit series The Sopranos. He won 3 Emmy Awards, 3 Screen Actors Guild Awards, and 1 Golden Globe Award. Unfortunately, Gandolfini died from a heart attack while on vacation in Rome, Italy. He was supposed to travel to Sicily a few days later to receive an award at the Taormina Film Fest. Gandolfini was honored by many upon learning of his death. His body was flown back to the US four days after he died, even though the repatriation process takes at least 7 days. The family thanked the Italian and American authorities for speeding up the process. Clearly Gandolfini was a respected man, even in death. His funeral service was held on June 27, 2013, and his cremated ashes were given to his family.
