The 58-year old Zimbabwean is a London-based businessman and is the founder and chairman of Econet Wireless, an international telecommunications, media, and technology group. He owns about half of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, a publicly traded company which experienced a rise in its share price, making Masiyiwa even richer than the previous year. He also owns more than half of Liquid Telecom, a private company that provides fiber optic and satellite services to telecom firms in Africa.
