Mohammed “Mo” Ibrahim is the founder of Celtel International, established in 1998 and one of the first mobile phone companies serving Africa and the Middle East. When it was sold to Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Company for $3.4 billion in 2005, it had over 24 million mobile phone subscribers in 14 African countries. The sale earned Mo Ibrahim a cool $1.4 billion, after which he created the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in London.
