Although you should never rely on using credit cards or other types of card payments while in Cancun, never worry about using dollars either. The majority of tourists that visit Cancun are Americans, and Mexicans don’t mind earning in dollars anyway. First of all, getting paid in dollars means that they will earn more in the long run since the exchange rate is in their favor. It’s always better to carry cash with you since ATMs will charge exorbitant fees, plus they’ll give a poor exchange rate too. Just make sure that you don’t carry all of your cash on you when you go out. Just bring enough for the day and keep the rest in your room safety box and take out as needed.
