Never Flash Your Valuables

When walking around Cancun, and really anywhere else in Mexico, never wear flashy jewelry or flash any of your valuables around. Whether it’s your camera, your cellphone, expensive jewelry or a designer bag, you’re opening yourself up for theft and pickpocketing. Petty crime is a huge problem in Mexico, and travelers that aren’t careful leave themselves vulnerable to all the criminals that are just waiting for an easy victim. And never carry your passport around either, but rather have a photocopy with you and keep it safe at the hotel instead.
