Most tourists actually avoid going to Guatemala City. It is the city with the highest crime rate. Some travel advisories actually list this city as undesirable. But it is not all deserving of the infamy. However, one area is surely dangerous for tourists to visit. This is the notorious Zone 1. It is the place where most criminals operate and thrive. It is like entering a den of thieves, rapists, and killers. You won’t see policemen around here. Drug gangs seem to be running the show here. Be wise, and never venture into this area.
