Never Assume Everyone Speaks Spanish

While Spanish is the dominant language spoken, not everyone speaks it. Around 75% speak the language, and in a clear slow way without any difficult accent. It is easier to understand than other latin or central America countries. But there are indigenous people who have not immersed themselves with the Spanish language. Guatemala recognizes 21 Mayan languages and dialects. Kekchi and K’iche’ are the two most prevalent. These Maya descendants will not understand Spanish or English.
