Although British are known to be polite, they also are very reserved. Talking to a stranger minding their own business is seen as rude and is frowned upon. Even if you happen to be the friendliest person on the planet, choose wisely who you want to talk to. Engaging in small talk, particularly in public transport is frowned upon.
