Don’t Be Unprepared For John Wayne Airport

Source: https://www.visittheoc.com

The John Wayne Airport was named after the famous “rough and tough” actor who lived in Newport Beach, it was renamed in 1979 in his honour. It was formerly called the Orange County Airport. Not that it’s difficult to navigate to due to traffic jams, but most travellers are unaware that the airport follows a curfew and shuts down by 10pm. This is a result of the 1985 settlement agreement aimed at controlling noise as areas around the airport are considered noise sensitive. So departures are prohibited from 10pm until 7am, and arrivals from 11pm until 7am, exceptions for emergencies, weather problems, and other conditions are allowed. Also get ready for super-steep takeoffs that could rival roller coaster rides. This is because the airport runways are some of the shortest of any major airports in the US. But don’t worry, it is still a very safe airport.
