If you are just staying in the Old San Juan area, it would be a good idea not to drive and just leave your rental car at your hotel. The streets are quite narrow and not exactly in the best shape, and parking is not easy, to say the least. As it is the center of tourism in the island, with its shops, restaurants, and museums, among others, traffic can be very heavy and frustrating, which is compounded by reckless drivers. Best option is to get around by foot, but if you really must, just get a taxi.
