The population of Erie has dropped time and again, despite having more births than deaths. The main reason? It’s not the high crime rates. Instead, people are choosing to move to areas with more stable economic opportunities. The city needs to add market rate housing, especially in the downtown area. The homes are expensive to rent, and while there are plans of building affordable homes, some prefer to grab opportunities immediately rather than wait.
