Blondie’s Debbie Harry

History Daily

Debbie Harry was the face of Blondie, one of the most beloved and cool punk bands from the 70s. During a time when most rock stars were long haired, bare chested men with voices as high as women, Harry was a female performer who could rock with the best of them. Eventually the band moved from punk to pop, which most of their fans did not necessarily enjoy, but Harry never bothered with the reviews much. She explained, “I always found it sort of disturbing to read stuff while I was doing shows—all of a sudden the things I’d read would flash in front of my face in the middle of a song and I’d forget where I was, and go [gasps]. Like shock therapy.”
