Most people associate drag racing with men, but they also forget that most drag races were led by very sexy women telling them when to “GO!” But it wasn’t just boys that were having all the fun when it came to the actual racing. Shirley “Cha-Cha” Muldowney was known as the ‘First Lady of Drag Racing’ due to her amazing ability to drive her own twin engine car down the asphalt, leaving the boys in her dust. Like any other race car driver, she found herself in a number of accidents, some that were life threatening. This didn’t deter her though as she eventually took home the trophy for the NHRA Winston Top Fuel Championship back in 1977, and was even the first woman to do so.
