Symptoms Of Autoimmune Liver Conditions

Facty mblycdn

An autoimmune disease is a condition that involves your immune system turning against healthy tissue in your body. Autoimmune liver conditions that attack your liver, causing inflammation and scarring, include primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and autoimmune hepatitis. Both PBC and PSC often develop slowly, but early symptoms include itchy skin and fatigue. In their advanced stage, symptoms can include jaundice, abdominal pain and swelling, edema in the lower extremities, unexplained weight loss, as well as an enlarged liver, spleen, or abdomen. If you have PSC, you may also experience fever, chills, and night sweats.
Unlike PBC and PSC, the signs and symptoms of autoimmune hepatitis may come on suddenly. Some people may have only a few recognizable symptoms in the early stages of the disease, but others immediately notice flu-like symptoms and other symptoms similar to those of viral hepatitis, including jaundice, itchy skin, abdominal pain, aching muscles and joints, lethargy, fatigue, or a general feeling of weakness, nausea and vomiting, a loss of appetite, dark urine, and pale stools.
