It’s hard to believe that Jack Nicholson was ever afraid of anything or anyone but rumor has it that he was actually afraid of actor Dennis Hopper. Hopper happened to be the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend at the time, Michelle Phillips, who was one of the singers of the infamous band ‘The Mamas and The Papas.’ Rumor had it that Nicholson was so fearful of Hopper that he would actually sleep with a hammer underneath his pillow at night. They eventually starred together in a movie, Easy Rider, but it wasn’t exactly a friendship for the two mean, even if Nicholson and Phillips eventually called things off.
