Probably a much more common technique that people try to use to help relieve hiccups is by using ice or ice cold water. Cold water is said to ‘stimulate the vagus nerve,’ which then can help abate the hiccups. One way to do this is by either sucking on a piece of ice, while another is by drinking ice cold water.
