Hugh Loved Art As Well

Julienslive

One of the more impressive features of the Playboy Mansion is its art gallery, which is a testament to Hef’s taste and love for art. Among the paintings that were sold for millions was a piece by French artist Henri Matisse, who was famous for paintings like Woman with a Hat and Blue Nude. During a wild party in the mansion in 1974, like there was any other kind, this particular piece was said to have been used by a drunk John Lennon to put out his cigarette, and nearly got beaten up for it. According to Hefner, this was during the time when Lennon was separated with Yoko Ono. Fortunately, the art was restored, and for Lennon as well, as Hef did not ban the troubled singer. It helped that Hef looked up to him as a hero, of course.
