This is a gigantic Japanese fighting dog, resulting from cross-breeding with large European dogs like the St. Bernard, Great Dane, and Mastiffs. They are often referred to as Japanese mastiffs, or canine sumo wrestlers. They reach about 32 inches tall, and weigh about 130 to 200 pounds. They have cute faces with wrinkled foreheads and sad brown eyes. They are muscular, powerful dogs that were bred for fighting, but are generally not people-aggressive. They are gentle with kids, but may be overprotective, so strangers watch out. However, time is needed for training and socializing. Easy to groom, and live to about 12 years.
