This is the heaviest dog breed around. It weighs an average of 180 – 200 pounds, but an English Mastiff named Zorba holds the record at 343 pounds. It measured over 8 feet long from nose to tail, and was the size of a small donkey. They were bred as a working dog, and used to bait bulls, bears, and even lions. But the Mastiff is a gentle and lovable pet, mellow and even-tempered, good with kids. It needs lots of affection, as long isolation can lead to anxieties. They need daily walks and exercise. They are massive and strong, so proper training is required or you won’t be able to control it.
