Boerboel means “farm dog” in Dutch, and this large breed originated from South Africa. They are not so tall at 27 inches, but are massive at 200 pounds or more. Excellent watchdogs as they are territorial, but are good with children. They love to play, and are obedient and loyal. Highly intelligent, but need to be trained and socialized early. Always introduce guests to your home to the dog before you invite them in. Uninvited people will have something to worry about. Novice owners should not try to own this dog, a strong and firm leader is needed. However, if properly trained, they become a good furry companion to have, and will protect your family always.
