This is a large breed of hound, bred to hunt red deer. It may have similarities with a greyhound, but it’s much larger, more heavily boned, and has a rough coat. It is known to be very affectionate and is a great companion for families. They love kids, are friendly to strangers, but not so with other dog breeds. They can tolerate either warm or cold climates, but don’t do well when left alone for a long time. While they are intelligent, they are not easily trained…they have a very independent mind. They love the outdoors, and need a lot of exercise, they love to play fetch and other running games.
