There are a few items that are considered illegal in India, but one of the most notorious is the shahtoosh shawl. It’s made using the hair of Tibetan antelopes, otherwise known as chiru, and they have been an endangered species for quite a long time. Because of this, they have been considered illegal but they are still in demand, secretly being woven in Kashmir as they always were. Never buy one because if you’re caught, the consequences will surely not be worth it.
