Most cruises that make port stopovers, do so with limited time. Know this and never be late going back. Many tourists who have been late end up missing the boat. They are known as the “pier runners”, trying to catch the ship running along the pier. Some make it just in the nick of time, but most do not. The ship will not wait for you, you are on your own if you don’t make it back on time. If you think you may have a problem getting back on time, do not stray far from the pier. Better yet, keep the ship within audible distance as they will normally sound off several warning alarms to let you know it is time to board.
