Just like with parking slots, looking for an empty bathroom stall can be just as annoying. Some places in Japan actually have digital maps that show you which stalls are free and which ones are occupied. This also allows people outside to see whether the bathroom is full so that they can move on to the next ones available, or if they are okay to wait for one to open up. Plus it also means not accidentally knocking or trying to open up a stall since you already know it’s taken.
