Nameplate On Houses Instead of Numbers

Cloudfront

In Japan, you may often see houses that have the family name of the person that lives there rather than the number of the actual house. That’s because back in 1923, the country was hit by the Great Kanto Earthquake that left many people homeless with the need to rebuild from the ground up. As a result, cities took so long to mark the homes with numbers, leaving people to place their names on their doors instead. Although not everyone wants people to know their names, it does have a nice touch when you see it done so beautifully.
