McGillis would end up taking some time off from acting after a few other roles she took in the late 80s and early 90s that were just not very fulfilling in her opinion. Later on, the fact that she stepped away from acting is actually one of the things that she would become most known for. Ironically, she played the role of an instructor in Top Gun, and in her later years, she decided to teach acting classes in Asheville, North Carolina, where she currently lives with her husband and children.
