“Scanners” is a psychological thriller that was first released in 1981. The story centers around a bunch of scanners that have the ability to gain psychic power and control minds, all while causing pain to their chosen victims. Like most scary films from the 70s and 80s, it centers on scare tactics, gore and their penchant for blowing things up, like a guy’s head. In order to simulate a brain exploding, they used a ton of hamburger meat and ketchup it would seem, and it’s one scene that’s been watched over and over again.
