At that time, AmEx was in dire need of capital, and Berkshire managed to get them out of a sticky situation while getting quite favorable terms for their investment. Now, Berkshire Hathaway owns 151.6 million shares of AmEx, amounting to around $14.4 billion. These stocks accounts for 7.1% of Hathaway’s portfolio.
