When you see a friend or a family member putting on weight, it would be rude to call them out or assume they are pregnant. Congratulating someone on the assumption that they are pregnant is usually a nice way of telling them they are fat. Pregnant or not, the right way to approach it is to wait for the person to announce their pregnancy. Without any announcements, it is safe to say they are not pregnant, and it would be better to just keep quiet about the changes in their appearance. Ms. Favell had to endure these wondering looks and lingering thoughts from her family and friends as her appearance started to change.
