Meat Extracts

Widencdn

Meat extracts, in powder or paste form, are highly concentrated meat stock, often made from beef or chicken. They are used to add flavor to soups and sauces, as well as canned meat, casseroles, pot pies, and stews. Meat extracts are used to prepare the rich and flavorful French consommé soup, the Mexican delight Pollo A La Crema, and the popular pork rib dish, Bak kut teh, served in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Even though Bak kut teh is considered a nutritious medicinal soup, known to provide some relief if you suffer from arthritis or rheumatism, its use of meat extracts might not make it an ideal choice if you have gout. Likewise, despite reports showing an association between chick essence and improved cognitive performance, especially in learning and memory, doctors do not recommend adding chicken extract to your recipes if you are susceptible to gout attacks. Meat extracts, including meat stocks, broths, gravies, Bovril meat extract paste, and Oxo cubes, contain over 150 milligrams of purines for every 100-gram serving.
